Choose LOVE over HATE.

We all have a natural inclination to hate those we see as our enemies. We hate those who hate us. We hate those who hurt us. We hate those who threaten us.

The righteous indignation of anger leads to burning hate.  At the time it feels so justified. We see ourselves as the ones who are right. Everyone else is wrong. Simple as that. Choosing hate is easy.  Loves is absolutely most difficult.

When we’ve been hurt; hate is a natural default reaction for all of us; me included. It feels so good and so right in moments to burn with rage against certain people; even if we claim principles that teach love.

Love isn’t a default reaction. Instead; it is a difficult choice; especially at first. But as you continually choose to walk in love. Your heart changes. Your heart softens and gets bigger. It reminds me of the story of The Grinch. The more he opened his heart to love the bigger his heart grew. Eventually love will seem like the only right choice. Your choice to walk in love will be tested again and again but will become easier. There is never a good justification to hate or to spread your hate to others.

1 John 4:19 We love each other because he loved us first. 20 If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t
love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?

1 John 2:8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. 9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. 10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. 11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

Hate hurts the person who is full of hatred. Even if you don’t call it hate. Even if you dress it up as righteous; it still hurts you more than anyone and it hurts the loved ones closest to you. It warps your ability to think clearly or to feel. You see others as sub humans who don’t quite deserve what you and yours deserves. Hate hardens your heart. Even if you feel softenness toward your own kind; you heart is hardened from rage that makes it hard for you to be reasonable and rational. You see everything through the lens of your rage and hate. You will try and justify things that are unjustifiable. You take on “they deserve what they get” mentality.

Those who follow Jesus cant follow him and be raging with hate towards people. He wasn’t vague about it at the Sermon on the Mount. He said to “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Hating others not only damages you. It also damages the ones closest to you.

Today;  join me in making a concious effort to walk in love over Hate. Search your heart and let go of the anger and rage before it destroys you and the ones closest to you. If you need to separate yourself from certain people or influences; do it. Whatever triggers rage and hate in you; ITS NOT GOOD FOR YOU. Maybe you will see the world different without those influences in your life

Join me in making the  choice to Love. Love always WINS! Love is what makes life worth living. I choose love over hate, because the Author of the story isn’t finished.

Open the eyes of my heart~

Have you ever been so overwhelmed that you lose focus of what really matters. You forget what is important. You have a stream of things beating you down you feel as if your drowning. Every report from the doctor is bad. People around you keep letting you down. The more you give; the more people seem to want. Your kids suddenly know more than you. It seems like crazy people are everywhere all you want to do is retreat. The president has lost his mind. You can’t turn on the television without another crisis. You feel like no one understands you and you have no one too talk to. It is more than one person can take. That explains my life for quite sometime. When our spiritual vision is clear, we are happy. Perhaps the most powerful aspect of vision is that it changes your way of thinking, which in turn changes the way you live. But when your spiritual vision gets blurred to who Christ is then we get in trouble.

When bad things happen to us, here’s what Satan whispers. “Life is bad. God is bad, too.” Satan continues, “Either God is in control and He doesn’t care. Or, God cares, but He’s not powerful enough to do anything about it.”

We need to correct this lie with the truth—the truth that “God is good. He’s good alllllll the time!” The Spirit counters Satan’s lie with the truth: God is in control and He cares. Jesus proves it by being our Sovereign Shepherd—allll the time!” Here’s how the author of Hebrews says it in 3:1. “Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus”—what Jesus?—“the apostle and high priest whom we confess.” We cling to the King because Hebrews 1:3 tells us he’s continually “sustaining all things by his powerful word.” Sustain means to uphold, to support, to maintain, to keep together. It’s similar to what Paul says about Christ in Colossians 1:17, “In him all things hold together.”

Do you feel like everything around you is falling apart? Cling to the One who holds the stars in place. Do you feel like you’re coming unglued? Glue your mind and your hope to the One who keeps the universe from unraveling. There’s one more amazing image embedded in verse 3: “He sat down at the right hand of the majesty in heaven.” In the Bible, the right hand is a portrait of absolute power and universal authority. In the Ancient Near East a seated king signifies a conquering king. Jesus not only paid it all. He conquered all—sin and death.

As He reigns on the throne, remember what Romans 8:34 tells us He is doing. “Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.” What is Jesus doing this very minute? He’s praying for you. What is Jesus doing when Satan tempts you? He’s praying for you. What is Jesus doing when your boss abuses you, when your spouse abandons you, when your child dishonors you, when your parent disappoints you? He’s praying for you.

When Satan whispers that God must not be in control, focus your eyes on Jesus—the Jesus who is in total control because He is the Sustainer, Savior, and Sovereign who ever lives to pray for you. Isn’t that AWESOME!!
Thank you God for correcting my vision and allowing me too see things how they really are and not how satan wants me to see them. 🙂

Fear of global calamity~

Matthew 24:6
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.”

If any of you know me personally or follow me on facebook you know my passion for politics. You also know in the last few weeks i have listened to so much media that i lost my mind for a minute an allowed fear to overwhelm me. I’ll be the first to admit we are living in scary times for our country. Honestly; i never thought i would see what is happening in our country; happening. The spiritual bailouts, ecological turmoil, and worldwide persecution. I know Jesus told us things will only get worse…but i just never imagined i would see the day.

Matthew 24:4-14
The Message (MSG)
4-8 Jesus said, “Watch out for doomsday deceivers. Many leaders are going to show up with forged identities, claiming, ‘I am Christ, the Messiah.’ They will deceive a lot of people. When reports come in of wars and rumored wars, keep your head and don’t panic. This is routine history; this is no sign of the end. Nation will fight nation and ruler fight ruler, over and over. Famines and earthquakes will occur in various places. This is nothing compared to what is coming.

9-10 “They are going to throw you to the wolves and kill you, everyone hating you because you carry my name. And then, going from bad to worse, it will be dog-eat-dog, everyone at each other’s throat, everyone hating each other.

11-12 “In the confusion, lying preachers will come forward and deceive a lot of people. For many others, the overwhelming spread of evil will do them in—nothing left of their love but a mound of ashes.

13-14 “Staying with it—that’s what God requires. Stay with it to the end. You won’t be sorry, and you’ll be saved. All during this time, the good news—the Message of the kingdom—will be preached all over the world, a witness staked out in every country. And then the end will come.

So things are going to get bad, really bad, before they get better. And when conditions worsen, Jesus said to do not get alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. He said Don’t freak out when bad stuff happens.

He also said Don’t be mislead. Don’t be deceived. For many will come in my name, claimimg, I am the christ and will deceive many. There is a twofold appearance of MANY in this verse. Many deceived and many deceivers. Churches are a petri dishes for self serving egomaniacs who masquerade as ministers of God. God warns us to be careful of the spiritual gurus claiming a special status, a superior spirituality. They boast of insider information and adorn their teachings with “God told me”…Some even claim they are Christ. Don’t be mislead, Jesus warns. Don’t be wooed by their slick appearances, silver tongued oratory, or performances. Matthew 24:24
New International Version (NIV)
24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. Multitudes and miracles. Large audiences and spectacular deeds. Throngs of people. Displays of power. When you see them, be careful. High volumes doesn’t equate with sound faith. Dont be impressed with numbers of tricks. Satan can counterfeit both. Filter all messages and messengers through this verse. 1 John 2:22-23
New King James Version (NKJV)
22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
False prophets always minimize the role of Christ and maximize the role of humanity. Stick to one question. Is this person direceting listeners to Jesus? If the answer is yes, be grateful and pray for them. If the answer is no; get out while you can!

Along with heresy we can expect calamity. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom. There will be famine and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginnings of birth pains. Matthew 28:6-8 niv
Christians will suffer the most. Matthew 24:9-12
New International Version (NIV)
9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.

America, proud as she is of religious freedom, suffers of increased anger toward Christians. Professors publicly mock bible believing students. Talk show host denigrate people of faith. We can expect the persecution to increase. When it does, fragile convictions will collapse.( The love of many will grow cold.) Spiritual stowaways will jump ship. The halfhearted will become cold hearted. A great many church attenders will be disclosed as faith pretenders. They will not only leave the faith; they will make the lives of the faithful miserable.
Don’t freak out at the heresy, calamity, and apostasy. Don’t give in or give up, for you will soon witness the victory.
Matthew 24:13-14
New International Version (NIV)
13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Matthew 24:6 says these things must come to pass. Must is a welcomed word that affirms that all events, even the most violent, are under a divine plan. Every trial and trouble has a place in God’s scheme. “The reason why we ought not be terrified is not because wars are not terrifying. Quite the contrary. It is because above all chaos reigns a divine plan.” All things, big and small, flow out of the purpose of God and serve his good will. When the world appears out of control; it isn’t. When warmongers appear to be in charge, they aren’t. When ecological catastrophes dominate the day, don’t let them dominate you. God is in control. We can trust him. “Everything will work out in the end. If it’s not working out; it’s not the end.”

Hate well?

Have you ever been in a situation where you were rubbed the wrong way? Maybe someone offended you? Someone was mean to your children and you didn’t know how to handle the situation the correct way? You feel like if you don’t make a stand you will burst at the seams! We have our character that is in part formed by what we hate, because we move to be different from whatever that is. Our hatred of that serves as our protective force. When someone comes against that it causes us to want to protect what we value. I personally hate it when people i love are personally threatened. So i move to protect them. My protective emotions kick in. I immediately react by moving against the threat, destroy the threat, then protect what is good. (Not sure if that even make sense to you.)

What we hate defines who we are. But how do we hate well? Wise people hate in a certain way and then respond in a certain way. They let the hate solve a problem instead of creating new problems. I want to learn this! Normally i will storm into the situation enraged and angry about the issue. I may even be hurtful instead of tackling the issue in a constructive fashion and solving the issue in the process. A wise person moves against the problem, and shows love and respect to the person in the process. I heard a wise person once say,”Go hard on the issue and soft on the person.” This is profound. I find myself going hard on the person i have the issue with and this is very unwise. I always let my emotions go ahead of me. I know negative emotions are of little value when it comes to solving problems. My hate has passionate roots and deep connections to the heart and spurs all kinds of feelings. The way i see life is not how another may see it and what frustrates me the most is being misunderstood. Being this way has caused me a lot of pain and heartache in my past. I do know that we get what we tolerate. If we allow mistreatment, you will be mistreated. Wise people do not tolerate dysfunction. They hate it wisely. They don’t destroy the person or relationship in the process, but they do not tolerate the infection. So choosing what we hate is very serious!! What will i tolerate? What will we work with and what will we absolutely under no circumstances allow? What we do not hate well is going to find it’s way in our life? ‘Im glad i had this talk with myself….Enjoy

Proverbs 6:16-19
The Message (MSG)
Seven Things God Hates

16-19 Here are six things God hates,
and one more that he loathes with a passion:
eyes that are arrogant,
a tongue that lies,
hands that murder the innocent,
a heart that hatches evil plots,
feet that race down a wicked track,
a mouth that lies under oath,
a troublemaker in the family.

Are your ears closed?

Today i want to talk about speaking your heart to someone whether it be your spouse, child, friend, co-worker, parent. Have you ever felt like you just weren’t being heard. Every word is always taken out of context and no issue is ever resolved; you leave a conversation feeling more frustrated. There are some people who only hear what they want to hear. It is; however; extremely hard on the people who are trying to communicate with them. People who hear only what they want to hear usually miss the point, misinterpret the meaning and are not above making up things that make them feel more comfortable with what is said and who is saying it. When challenged about the interpretation of what is said, people who hear what they want to hear will get mad or upset about the things they heard that were never spoken.

People who hear what they want to hear can feel accused, degraded, or criticized regardless of what is said. They are extremely defensive, which makes it difficult to talk to them, even about important things. People who hear what they want to hear know how things should be said, but even when they are, they can’t seem to hear them.
People who hear what they want to hear are mind readers and body language experts! They supposedly can read meanings into speakers tones of voice and never hear the true heart of the matter.

In the past; you may have been a person who hears what you want to hear rather than what is truly being said. Just for today, practice not adding meanings or diminishing the value of what is said to you based on who is saying it. Hear the truth of what is being said and try not to give the truth your own meaning. I hope this will help someone in a relationship.  Its very sad when relationships suffer over miscomunication and misunderstandings. We are too blessed to be stressed!

Yesterday i attended someone very dear to the families funeral. My son’s granddaddy. He was a very faithful, kind, and very patient man. He was always their to help his family. Even in the choices of life; he sat back and let them learn from those choices. If you wanted a lesson in patience; he would give it to you. I am the most impatient person i know. If something is broken; i want it fixed NOW! If you made a mistake; fix it STAT! I’m always on the move. But then i find myself in the slowest bank line on a friday at noon! It’s here that i come face to face with the realization that i cannot make my life move faster than it is moving. No matter how urgent our situation may be, things are going to happen when they happen, not a minute sooner. It does not matter how many times you roll your eyes, suck your teeth, huff or puff, you cannot make your life happen any faster than it is happening right now. In a long line, in a small bank, when it seems like people aren’t moving as fast as they could, remember that the process is in motion and that things will get done when they get done.

Patience is a choice. The older i get; the more patient i am becoming! Praise God! It is a conscious choice to be reliant on the unceasing movement of life. Now to teach my kids this lesson. Patience is an ability. It is the mental ability to remember that once the wheels start turning and the movement has begun, the destination will be reached eventually. Patience is a skill. It’s an emotional skill of knowing that what you expect, intend and desire will happen exactly when it needs to happen. It is a challenge to practice patience. For me; it will be a long life lesson.

As i sat listening to the preacher at the funeral yesterday talking about all granddaddies wonderful qualities and how he will always be remembered. Patience being the most outstanding. I began a self reflection. What would people think of me? What would be my legacy? Something to think about.

In the past; we may have experienced bouts of impatience. Just for today, be devoted to mastering the art and science of being patient. Let’s be patient with ourselves, be patient with others, be patient with life. Patience always pays off in the end.

How people treat you~

561865_283980451693247_273779206046705_629264_1362140123_nWhat if someone you loved and respected suddenly stopped speaking to you? With no reason and no explanation, they simply turned out and turned you off. How would you feel? What would you do? Most of us would probably search for a reason. We would search our most recent words, trying to find a reason why someone, particularly this someone, would turn their back. When the search turned up nothing, we would make the next most obvious leap. We would ask ourselves, “What did i do wrong”? It is at that precise moment that we ask ourselves that question that we are going to get ourselves in trouble.

People have a right to do what they want to do, when they want to do it. You don’t have to like it and sometimes it is very hurtful.  It does not mean, however, that you did anything wrong.  People see the same things in different ways. Certain people may process information in a different way than you do.  They may feel different than you about certain things. And even when you think you know a person, they may surprise you!!

Each time you make yourself wrong for the way someone treats you, you diminish your sense of self.  At times, you can be so willing to be wrong about what has happened that you make yourself wrong for simply being who you are.  At some point in life, you may simply be faced with the painful reality that, for whatever reason, someone has chosen to move you out of their life.  Accept that as their choice. While you may feel hurt and bewildered, it does not mean you have done anything wrong.

In the past, you may have considered yourself wrong about something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU!   Moving forward,  accept the fact that not every painful experience means you have done something wrong. You aren’t wrong because of the way others may  treat you.  Be receptive to the idea that sometimes people do things that have nothing to do with you but everything to do with THEM and just LET IT GO!

Jesus take the wheel~

Have you ever been in a toatally pitch black room where it seems as if there are things everywhere? Even when you know where everything is or where it was the last time you saw it, if the place is pitch black, everything feels different. In a pitch black room you stretch out your arm because you expect to crash into a wall or a piece of furniture. Even in a familiar place, once the lights go out you expect something to jump out and attack you. In other words, in the darkness, you expect to get hurt.

There are times in life, you can expect to be in the darkness, when you will not be able to see what is directly in front of you, or what is over in the corner. In these times, you must rely on your instincts and your memory. You must also realize that you are not in control, God is! When you find yourself in the darkness of an unfamiliar experience, do not fight God for control! That is Good! Let me say it again…..Do not fight God for control. I am so guilty of this. Do not grope, grab or swat off imaginary demons. Rather than shielding yourself from the expectation of pain, SURRENDER. Drop your hands to your side. Take a deep long breath. Concentrate on one thing that you know. Remember that God loves you and will protect you know matter where you are! Remember that what you can’t see, God can see! When you ask God to lead and guide you and protect you, you will miraculously be able to see the way in and or a new way out!

In the past, you may have been frightened by the darkness of your past, the unknown future or where you are in your situation right now. Move with faith through those experiences in which you cannot see what is to come. Talk to yourself. “Let there be light! Let there be light in my heart. Light in my mind. Light in my experiences.” God will light up the blind spots in you mind and in your life and show you the way.

The difference between talking and communication!!

Have you ever tried communicating with someone? Really communicating. Trying to share your heart, on a really deep level only to come away disappointed time after time. When two or more souls are blessed to be in the presence of each other, the greatest service they can offer one another is communication. Communication is more than just talking! Communication is interaction between two souls that serve a higher purpose. Communication is a process of ingesting, digesting, absorbing one another’s thoughts and feelings, and utilizing the love and wisdom of the souls surrounding you. It’s a process in which we learn to trust as we learn that we can be trusted.

Honest, open, heart felt communication is one of the greatest gifts we can offer ourselves. It’s a means of learning to hear others while WE experience being HEARD. When you are in true communication with another being, you have an opportunity to get clear about your own needs, desires and intentions. You also become clear about the expectations others may have of you. In the process, you gain clarity of judgments and decisions you have made, the fears by which you are challenged, the changes you may need to make, the forgiveness you may need for yourself and the forgiveness you may need to offer. Open, honest communication allows you to get your perceptions and predispositions in check!

Communication is the ultimate process of sharing your truth, learning the truth and experiencing the impact of truth. TRUE communication is so much more than JUST TALKING! Talking to impress someone. Talking to make a point. Talking to pass the time. True communication rises to the level of interaction between minds and hearts and is a great service toward the healing and evolution of the soul.

So what if you come in contact with someone and you can’t seem to go to that level.  As hard as you try to get them to that level, the level seems non existent. I really don’t know the answer to that.  But for those of you who may have not realized the value and importance of communication. Set an intention to communicate each time you open your mouth or your ears. The only way to get healing in relationships, healing for yourself and evolving with others is through the process of communication.

“Constantly talking isn’t necessarily communicating.”
― Charlie Kaufman

“When you give yourself permission to communicate what matters to you in every situation you will have peace despite rejection or disapproval. Putting a voice to your soul helps you to let go of the negative energy of fear and regret.”
― Shannon Alder

“Honest, open communication is the only street that leads us into the real world… We then begin to grow as never before. And once we are on this road, happiness cannot be far away.”
― John Powell

Facing reality!

Have you ever had certain realities in life you knew you must face but kept choosing not too face them. It’s amazing, the stories we tell to avoid facing the realities in which we live. People drink, they say, for medical reasons. Abused women say they fell down the stairs. Abused and battered children needed the discipline. Rather than face what is really going on, we will sit in the middle of a mess and call it a garden. We ride our boats down the river of denial and refuse to acknowledge the stench in the river. Even when the stench becomes unbearable, we say it’s a good place to fish!  We seem to have a really hard time calling things what they are, which is probably why we spend so much time in bad situations. The longer we resist facing whatever it is, the easier it is to forget that we are equipped to change it.

The bible offers us the story about a man who sat at the gate of the city begging for coins. When two of Jesus’ disciples passed him without dropping anything in the cup, he asked, “Why?” The beggar explained his situation. He pleaded with the disciples for help. They refused! The disciples refused to believe his story because they knew the truth.
Instead of seeing the man as a beggar, they saw his power, his strength, his inherent right to stop begging and claim his divine inheritance. They knew he was in denial. The disciples knew the man had called himself a beggar for so long he now believed it. The disciples refused to help their brother hold on to his limited ideas and beliefs about himself. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could stop buying into your stories and face the truth?

In the past; you may have been avoiding, denying, resisting the truth. You may have forgotten you can do anything you choose to! You can have the kind of life you desire. Stop telling stories. Put the begging cup away. Look at yourself. Look at your life. Tell the truth about what you see. What is your reality?
